Gemini Explorer
Dolphin watching cruises and Scottish Wildlife cruises aboard Gemini Explorer
Discover the natural beauty of the North East Coast of Scotland along the Moray Firth Coast. The boat trips take two and a half hours, cruising along the Moray Firth, an area of outstanding natural beauty, incredible rock formations and charming villages dotted along the way. The wildlife here is of international importance for the population of Bottlenose Dolphins resident in the Firth.
As well as Dolphins, we regularly encounter Harbour Porpoise, and both Grey & Common Seals basking on rocks or bathing in the sea nearby. Occasional sightings of Minke Whales and more rarely, Basking Sharks can also be seen.
Gemini explorer is an Ex Clyde class lifeboat, converted into comfortable and safe wildlife cruiser, based in Buckie Harbour in north East Scotland. She is available for corporate and commercial charter and sails all the year round. She is fully MCA compliant to carry 12 passengers plus three crew 60 miles from any safe haven. Being an ex lifeboat she is built to very exacting standards and all essential equipment and machinery is at least doubled up. She still carries original equipment from her RNLI days and she draws attention wherever she goes. The wheelhouse is very much as it was when she was in service with the RNLI except for the inclusion of an array of modern electronic navigational aids.
Whilst on board during the dolphin watching trips we supply hot drinks as part of the service. There is a well-stocked library of books on mammals and birds seen whilst at sea. There is also a large heated saloon at deck level with ample windows to view if the weather is rainy. Externally there is also an upper deck area, which gives a fantastic level-viewing platform, which can be accessed whilst underway.
One of the most interesting aspects of Gemini Exlporer is her footprint. For the uninitiated this is a unique underwater sound given off by a boat/ship when underway. Gemini Explorers footprint seems to attract dolphins and whales.
In the winter the weather plays a bigger part with regard to sailings, so please call and confirm sailing times in advance! Daytime trips last 2 ½ hours and we can do two or three trips a day. Please attend 15 mins prior to setting off times ensure prompt departure.
Prices for day trips are: Adults £25 Children under 16 yrs £18. We are happy to take dogs, cats and other animals (within reason!) free of charge.
