At least three fin whales, were spotted feeding with hundreds of seabirds off Porthgwarra, Cornwall in the afternoon of the 20th January. One of these gentle giants came to only 250 meters from the shore. Three blows were seen at any one time. After an hour of feeding in the area they slowly moved west. The next morning the whales were still seen in the area although much further offshore, and the same afternoon whale spouts were spotted off Land’s End inside Longships Lighthouse as the whales were heading north.
Thanks to Ray Dennis and Cornwall Wildlife Trust for the report.
