5 August – Humpback Whale in the Sound of Sleat, Inner Hebrides
A humpback whale was sighted in the Sound of Sleet by Peter Fowler and crew, during Sea Fari Adventures’ daily wild life trips last week.
30 July – Minke whale sighted in Norfolk
A solitary minke whale was sighted off Winterton, north of Great Yarmouth in Norfolk on the mid morning of 30th July. This is the first sightings of a minke whale in the area and was reported to Sea Watch by Terry Townsend.
25 July – Fin whale spotted in the inner Moray Firth
The second largest marine mammal – the fin whale, has been sighted in the inner Moray Firth on the 25th of July. The whale was seen in Rosemarkie Bay from Chanonry Point. The sighting was reported by WDCS to our local coordinator, Howard Loates.
16 July – Minke whales all over Scotland!
After the distinct lack of minke whale sightings in the West Coast of Scotland, particularly in the Inner Hebrides last summer, the minke whales are back. These small but most common of the UK baleen whales have been sighted in good numbers all around the Islands of Muck, Eigg and Rhum, The Sound of Sleat and even in Mallaig Harbour!
Even larger numbers of minkes are been seen all over the North East Scotland from Lybster to Inner Moray Firth and Aberdeen.
