Killer whales have been sighted in the Firth of Forth area several times during the last two to three weeks. The first sighting of two whales was reported on the 9th of January by the Forth Rail Bridge. Most of the sightings have been of a single whale between the Forth Rail Bridge and Hound Point. The black and white whale has been seen catching and eating seals in the River Forth, where apprently there are also plenty of salmon at the moment, which might have enticed the whale to venture so close inshore.
This is not the only recent sighting of these whales in the area; two killer whales were seen between Isle of May and Fife in early December and another two were spotted off Fife Ness in August. There have also been a unconfirmed reports of several other whales sighted in the area.
