We are delighted to announce that next year’s National Whale and Dolphin Watch will be taking place on the 27th July to the 4th August.
This event aims to create a snapshot of cetacean sightings from around UK. If we can find out where these animals are and what they are doing, we can not only compare this information from one year the next, but also inform conservation measures in order to ensure the cetaceans in UK waters are protected.
How can you help?
Anyone is welcome to get involved either by organising a watch or attending one of the manned watches which will be advertised on the website closer to the time.
We want to organise manned watches around the UK coastline. These watches can be either boat-based or land-based.
Land-based: You will need to choose a land-watch site and decide on the date of your watch. Sea Watch can provide you with help on how to choose your land watch site as well as forms and information on how to collect the data.
Boat-based: If you have your own boat or access to a boat, you may be interested in organising a boat-based watch. Boat-based watches are a great complement to land-based data as some species of cetacean do not come close enough to the shore to be seen from land and so are missed by land-based watches.
For more information on the event itself, please go to the NWDW page.
