The East Grampian Coastal Partnership reports a sighting of a group of 5 white-beaked dolphins</a> 3 miles off Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire on the 24th July. This is the first reported sighting from the group’s boat surveys, and is unusually late for the summer, as normally the white-beaked dolphins appear about a month earlier in the region. The sighting took place from the survey vessel Tranquillity at 20:15 in the evening and the animals spent around 40 minutes idling around the boat and lazily swimming under and around the boat before moving further to feed. The weather was clear and the sea was calm offering fantiastic views of the animals underwater.
Thanks to Kevin Hepworth for the sightings report and photos.
