NWDW New Quay Events

This year we are excited to bring you a jam-packed week of events running from our base in New Quay, Wales. We’ll be running workshops (in New Quay and online), Rockpool Safaris, land watches, online talks and much much more.

We’ll be running a raffle throughout the week with winners announced on Saturday 23rd July during our Live Music night at New Quay Sports and Social Bar. You can find out about the raffle prizes and our other NWDW competitions here.

New Quay Events

Saturday 23rd July 18:00 NWDW Welcome BBQ on Dolau Beach Join us on Dolau Beach from 6pm for our welcome BBQ. We’ll have lots of games and activities for all the family to kickstart National Whale and Dolphin Watch 2022.
Sunday 24th July 11:00-14:00 Bake Sale Pop down to the Pier to find our interns selling lots of baked goods (they’ll even be pup-cakes for our four-legged friends!). All donations go towards Sea Watch Foundation.
Monday 25th July 11:00-14:00 Beach Clean around New Quay Our interns will be conducting a beach clean around the New Quay beaches between 11:00-14:00. Feel free to join in and help us to clean up our local area and protect the marine environment.

Macrame workshop with Alex

Macrame is a form of textile produced using knotting techniques. We are lucky to have volunteer Alex running this macrame workshop from our Dolphin Hub in New Quay. Alex will be delivering a talk before leading everyone in making their own macrame masterpiece – a starfish! No need to register just turn up to our Dolphin Hub from 13:50 – we have limited space so please don’t be late!

19:00 Pub Quiz at New Quay Sport & Social Bar Our popular Pub Quiz will be back at the New Quay Sports & Social Bar from 7pm, hosted by the Sea Watch Foundation interns.

Workshop with our interns

Join our interns Georgia and Abbie for a landwatch workshop. They’ll be down on the pier showing you what and how we record the data on the dolphins seen in New Quay during our daily 2 hour landwatches. We’ve also got some child-friendly forms so everyone can get involved!

Join Katherine and help us to explore the rockpools and tidelines off Dolau Beach. Meet on the Pier by the Sea Watch Foundation sign at 13:55

19:00-21:00 Evening with Sea Watch Foundation (Online) Join us virtually for our annual Evening with Sea Watch Foundation, hosted by our Research Assistant, Rebecca. We’ll be discussing sightings so far at this year’s National Whale and Dolphin Watch before introducing our special guests: Ceri Beynon-Davies from Natural Resources Wales will be talking about the health benefits of nature and work of NRW; Celia Eadley will be chatting about her internship and the wildlife in Cardigan Bay and Katrin Lohrengel will be answering all your burning marine biology questions (send questions to nwdw@seawatchfoundation.org.uk). 19:00-21:00 Sea Watch Sunset Cruise We have partnered up with Dolphin Spotting Boat Trips to bring you a sunset cruise from New Quay. Join us for an evening of dolphin spotting on this two hour trip. Bring your own food and drinks! Bring your own food and drinks! Complementary glass of a summer cocktail on arrival.Adults £25 and Children £15. Book via their website.
Saturday 30th July 14:00-15:00 Rockpool Safari with Katherine Join Katherine and help us to explore the rockpools and tidelines off Dolau Beach. Meet on the Pier by the Sea Watch Foundation sign at 13:55.
19:00 Live Music at New Quay Sports and Social Bar Join us at New Quay Sports and Social Bar for an evening of live music. Donations on the door (all proceeds go to Sea Watch Foundation). We’ll also be selling raffle tickets and announcing the winners!
