Have you seen a marine mammal (whale, dolphin, seal or porpoise) while out and about near the coast? Please help and contribute to our valuable work by submitting your sighting!
The best way to record your sighting is via our free SeaWatcher App.
Watch our video on how to use
the Sea Watcher App here!
The app allows for opportunistic sightings as well as dedicated surveys and is equipped to deal with both land and boat based data.
Sightings can be viewed on a map and there are a number of handy resources which will help identify what you’ve seen. In addition, there is a code of conduct for boat users, advice on photography, and details of what to do and who to contact if you find a stranded animal, either live or dead. It’s a great little pocket resource and an amazing opportunity to contribute to one of the longest running cetacean sightings networks in the world!
So next time you’re out and about, why not try it out! Learn more about UK cetaceans and support conservation!
There are three ways to submit your sighting: through the app, completing the form below, or emailing us at sightings@seawatchfoundation.org.uk

Why don’t you consider becoming a regular observer? This is the best and easiest way to get involved and directly contribute to our monitoring work. Anyone can take part, all you need is enthusiasm, a pair of binoculars and a little patience. If you spend time at sea or by the coast, or if you’re planning a trip to the seaside, take time to look around and record what you see – and what you don’t!
Get in touch with our Sightings Officer, Simone, to find out more! Our work at Sea Watch Foundation would not be possible without our dedicated volunteers. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you and all cetacean observers for your valuable time and effort in helping us compile whale & dolphin observations.
