mel mckenzie

volunteer co-ordinator

Mel McKenzie joined the Sea Watch Foundation in September 2025, having volunteered with the charity over the last two years. Her experience at Sea Watch Foundation led her to Alaska where she spent 6 months assisting with a humpback whale monitoring project based in a glacial fjord. She then returned to our team to support with our Anglesey Project.

Mel is now leading the Sea Watchers Môn project, a community-focused initiative aiming to develop a network of volunteer marine mammal observers across the island. Duties include recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers, running outreach events including school visits, beach cleans and community engagement activities, whilst leading land and vessel based marine mammal surveys for the volunteers.
